Understanding AI in OD

What's on This Page???

How I am ensuring AI adoption in a way that is practical, human-centered, & accountable. It shows how to move beyond “tool rollout” to manager-led behavior change, where AI is embedded in everyday decisions, workflows, & coaching.

Scrolling through - you'll see how I assess AI readiness, choose where to invest based on conditions (data, risk, repeatability), measure productivity via decision quality & reduced rework, and convert skepticism into safer, more confident use of AI.

Q1: What does good AI adoption look like?

My Response...

Strong adoption is behavioral, not transactional - it’s also responsible. The real lever is middle management - when they support the individuals & team to make it real in their daily workflows. When managers use AI to plan better, coach differently (more effectively), & redesign how their teams make decisions, adoption sticks.

It’s less about logins or token usage, and more about leadership habits & making work better, easier, & more efficient so humans can work more strategically for the client/customer/guest or business (in the case of non-revenue-generating individuals and/or teams).

What This Can Look Like...

Q2: How do you decide where to invest?

My Response

I start with conditions, not tools. AI needs clean data, traceable outputs, & repeatable tasks with low-cost errors in risk assessment. When those foundations are in place, any investment yields ROI. In other words, we scale readiness before technology.

Q3: How do you measure productivity?

My Response

I look at decision quality & fewer redos or duplicate work efforts. If teams spend less time reworking or revalidating outputs, that’s meaningful productivity. It’s not about doing more…it’s about improving how people use information the first time.

Q4: If AI does 80% of the work, what happens?

My Response

First, I don’t think it will…however, that’s when you redesign how humans & AI collaborate. Instead of replacing work, we reframe it: the team learns to interpret & challenge AI outputs, almost as if working with a new colleague. The skill shift is from execution to orchestration.

Additionally, in my role, I focus on building soft skills that support the next-generation of AI-fluent People Leaders being coaches, revops leaders, & good humans!

Q5: How do you handle skepticism?

My Response

I treat skepticism as a design prompt, not a barrier. To assess it, I measure where people feel uncertain, map which controls & logs actually exist, & then run targeted pilots where we invite teams/individuals to probe for unintended behavior. Their findings directly drive improvements in guardrails & auditability.

On top of that, I build a simple program around transparency, engineered controls, critical evaluation skills, & feedback loops. Over time, you can see the shift: fewer high-severity surprises, more early flags, & survey data showing that employees feel safer using AI precisely because they can see how issues are caught & corrected/resolved.
